Angel Jose Suarez Rivera
At 45 pounds, he began to train at the Wilfredo Gomez boxing gym in Guaynabo, where he still trains today. He worked his way through the 50, 55 60, 65, 70, 75 80, 85, 90, 100, 106 all the way thru 132 pound classes respectively. His speed and agility have set him apart from his opponents. His grit and determination have made him a champion.
Angel's lifetime trainer is Jose “Che Che” Sanchez, former trainer of multi divison world Champion Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon. He has fought in many towns in his native island of Puerto Rico including Ponce, Catano, Barceloneta, Toa Alta, Trujillo Alto, Gurabo, Guaynabo, Vega Alta Carolina, Salinas, Toa Baja, and Arecibo.
Nicknamed “El Gallo” for his tenacity in the ring, Angel has held Junior Metro Regional Championships in the 106 and 119 divisions, eventually moving up to the 126 pound Junior division where he captured a national title successfully defended before moving up to 132 pds where he also one and defended his national title. He has also enjoyed success internationally. At age 18 he was signed by the Puerto Rican Olympic committee to represent his country. He has celebrated gold medals at the KITO Tournament in Ecuador, the Roman Cup in the Dominican Republic and the bronze medal at the 2011 Pan-American Games held in, Guadalajara Mexico.
Angel was ranked the number one 132 pound amateur boxer from Puerto Rico before turning pro. His record of 243 wins of his 308 fights are a testament to his hard work and dedication.
