Chris Arreola will be back in March. Can he finally get over the hump?
Heavyweight Chris Arreola will look to get his career back on track when he returns to action on March 13. Arreola’s opponent has yet to be named, but a tune-up should be expected, as “The Nightmare” hasn’t fought since a May 2014 loss to Bermane Stiverne.
Arreola, 33, has been right on the cusp of stardom for years now, losing a couple of world title chances against Vitali Klitschko and Stiverne, and coming up short in an eliminator against Stiverne, too, plus a fight with Tomasz Adamek. But Arreola (35-4, 31 KO) remains one of the most entertaining and charismatic heavyweights in the sport, and with a new crop of potential stars making their move in the division, he could get a few more opportunities to finally break through.
Arreola’s fight may not be televised, but it could be if there is an early stoppage in one of the two fights set for the Spike broadcast portion of the card.
“I’m itching to get back in the ring and show that I’m still going after my dream of being heavyweight champion of the world,” Arreola said. “This is a wonderful platform for me to fight with Premier Boxing Champions and I couldn’t be more excited to fight in front of my fans here in California.”
Do you think Arreola can finally get over the hump? He’s not young anymore, but heavyweight boxing can be an “old man’s” game, too. Do you think his chances have passed him by?
