Tyson Fury is back in action against Christian Hammer today on BoxNation, with coverage beginning at 2:00 pm EST.
Heavyweight contender Tyson Fury looks to stay unbeaten today as he faces Christian Hammer in the main event from the O2 Arena in London, with Chris Eubank Jr looking to bounce back from his first pro loss, taking on Dmitry Chudinov.
Fury (23-0, 17 KO) was last seen in late November, dominating Dereck Chisora in a rematch that was highly anticipated and ultimately a letdown, as Fury simply manhandled his opponent. Hammer (17-3, 10 KO) is not a serious contender in the division, but Fury likes to keep active, and his recent career has seen him take some extended breaks due to injuries to Chisora, which delayed their fight, and David Haye, which cost Fury about a year of his career as he waited for a fight that didn’t happen.
Hammer, however, has won 10 straight fights dating back to 2011, and as stay-busy opponents go, he’s not a bad one. He last fought in October, beating Irineu Beato Costa Jr, who recently lost to David Price in Germany.
The most interesting fight of the card may be Eubank Jr (18-1, 13 KO) against Chudinov (14-0-2, 9 KO), though. Eubank did lose to Billy Joe Saunders in November, but in the end acquitted himself very nicely, and he seems to be taking the defeat as a learning experience. Chudinov is not an elite fighter or anything, but he’s unbeaten and he did beat Patrick Nielsen last year in Denmark, so he’s no rollover. It’s an ambitious return from defeat for Eubank. This is no patsy opponent on paper.
Also on the card: Liam Walsh (17-0, 11 KO) will defend the British and Commonwealth super featherweight titles against Joe Murray (15-1, 6 KO); Bradley Skeete (18-1, 7 KO) takes on Anzor Gamgebeli (20-7-3, 8 KO); and Frank Buglioni (15-1, 11 KO) faces Ivan Jukic (21-3, 14 KO).
