JARGAL IN ACTION SATURDAY NIGHT ON MARTINEZ-WILLIAMS II UNDERCARD
January 1, 2011Previously unbeaten, Bayan Jargal (15-0-3, 10KO’s) suffered his first pro defeat this Saturday, at the hands of nearby Philadelphian fan favorite, Steve Upsher Chambers (23-1-1, 6KO’s) on the undercard of the highly anticipated rematch between Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The bout, which was hands down the most exciting and entertaining of the entire undercard, was a give and take war from the opening bell until the finish. After eight exciting rounds, Chambers was awarded a split decision, a decision that most everyone in attendance, felt should have been given to Jargal.
Most of the media at press row had Jargal ahead by a margin of five rounds to three, and upon hearing the decision rendered, the crowd booed loudly. Jargal was the aggressor for the entire fight, pressing the action throughout while Chambers was spent most of his time fighting going backwards and looking to land counters. Although he came up on the short end, Jargal gained many fans with his warrior like performance. Look for him to bounce back strong in 2011.
